The photographs

206 photographs, made between 26 January 2023 and 13 July 2026. The first one is eleven days older than the restaurant: the room was still a building site.

This is a record, not a selection. Nothing was held back for being ordinary, or for being the fourth picture of the same pot. The same wall, the same wash, the same pan come round again because that is what four years looked like from the inside.

One rule decided what stayed out: nobody is here who did not agree to be. Order slips, documents and anything carrying a name, a number or an address were left out for the same reason.

Nothing was retouched for this archive. Nothing was deleted.

The dates

179 photographs carry the day they were taken, read from the file rather than remembered. The other 27 carry only a year, and are placed by the year alone rather than guessed at.

Five had been filed as undated. The files knew: 31 January 2023.

The chapters

Space 49. Table 36. People 44. Objects 74. These are a way through the archive, not a taxonomy — a hand over a pan belongs to all four, and was put in one. Three belong to none: notes and a sketch left on the bare walls before the room was built. They are kept in the timeline alone.

The site

Set in Instrument Serif and Geist. Every photograph is served at three widths, and the browser is told how wide it will actually be drawn.

Daejang Dakbal closed on 27 September 2026
and was stripped the next morning.
